When I run into a shoe I burst my budget for, I feel good, I SHOE-GASM!! Sometimes I wonder if this is normal but this is all I know :)

fashion rut!!

Have you ever been caught in a fashion rut? Have there been times when you look in your wardrobe and simply cannot find anything to wear? Despite the numerous garments that are sadly staring at you. This can be a depressing and painful time; you search thoroughly but some of your clothes have been completely over worn; some are tedious and embarrassingly outdated. You attempt to come out of the same routine of wearing the same clothes but you end up repeating the cycle.

It would be great to have a different stunning and chic outfit for everyday of the year. We dream of piecing together clothes by the likes of Gucci and Salvatore Ferregamo but this is not a reality for the average woman who works a nine to five job and gets paid a measly minimum wage. Don’t despair as yet because something can be done and it can be done on a budget that will not tear holes in your pockets.

There is a simple fashionable strategy and it involves a good pair of jeans, a little black dress, a white shirt and an eye-catching pair of heels. If one owns these key pieces they can be shuffled around with color, accessories and sharpening textures.

To clarify on the example of buying a good pair of jeans - a good pair of jeans can be bought as a good and worthy investment because they can be worn for years. Jeans from internationally acclaimed fashion labels such as True Religion and Diesel are simply worth it. The only thing one will need to do is add different tops like shirts, blouses and camisoles from reasonable shops such as H&M, TopShop or Mr. Price.

Bringing in long-term garments with short-term garments is the way forward as this means mixing expensive clothes with reasonably priced or cheap pieces. This idea works as one does not always have to concentrate on always buying simple key parts for an outfit. Once you already have the important building structure to your outfit such as the heels or a black dress you can build up by attaching the fashion forward and ‘in’ pieces of that time.

It is not always necessary to fill your wardrobe only with cheap clothes because quality is always better than quantity, so make sure to mix it up as much as you can. By doing so your wardrobe will be left looking interesting and this will also help in assisting you with keeping in the margins of your budget.

Follow suit with this effortless approach to fashion and you will forever find your way out of the rut!

What is fashion?

What is fashion? Is fashion something we all conform to, something we all choose to follow, is it evolutionary based on something we clothe ourselves with and does it make us who we are.

Fashion can be related to who we are at the present moment or when we as human beings are trying to be like someone else or even something else. It can be our whole approach to life, our demeanor and simple state of mind which is mainly brought through pieces of materials; garmented together to create either beautiful or hideous items.

Nobody can really determine whether fashion fits the status quo because as an individual you have the option of dressing up as you wish and also deciding whether you feel comfortable or not.

Many fashion labels such as Yves Saint Laurent, Armani, and Versace have evolved through the years still keeping to their signature styles but have also changed over time in order to keep up with the trends of that particular era. They have observed people’s moods, personal experiences; be it on the social scenes or in their day to day lives and they have considered personalities and meshed them in either one item of clothing or collections.

In my opinion the most fashionable items are the simplest such as the white t-shirt or a good pair of well-fitting jeans because a whole lot of people are drawn to these and these are perfect pieces to use with all kinds of accessories that are classic or are in ‘fashion’ at that particular moment. These fashion items (white t-shirt, pair of jeans) will always stay classic as time moves on but the articles your pair these item of clothing’s with could be trendy pieces that are only good for that point in time.

The main question remains what fashion is? The word fashion is linked to words such as style, manner, trend and mode which are all equally true but everybody can have their own individual style, manner, trend and mode hence putting emphasis on the fact that fashion is based on every single person’s personality and distinctiveness.

Valentino Show for Spring/Summer 2010 at Paris Fashion Week

The Valentino spring/summer 2010 collection for Paris Fashion Week was filled with dresses that had volume and floral shapes designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli . Yellow, beige, black and grey assortments embraced the runway, showing that neutrals will be very big next year. The materials had great detailing which brought out a whimsical ambiance. Quirky glamour was also seen in the footwear; mostly heels with floral detailing which was in par with the outfits. Light materials were used capturing the fanciful and ‘airy’ essence. This collection for spring/summer ’10 definitely embodies the signature style and class that Valentino has had throughout the many years it has existed.

What seemed to have started off as a much anticipited event, ended up with most people rather disappointed. The sixties event of 2008 lacked an attraction unlike last year with Quentin Harris on the decks. This year the Djs were quite average and one other thing that was rather bleak was the intervals during the Dj changes. There weren't as many people who attended this year.The ticket situation was quite chaotic...people were fighting. To come to an ultimate conclusion: in order for this event to continue to be a success,more international and internationally recognised Djs should be invited and there should be less chaos!

British rapper Kano, will be releasing his new album on the 29th of September, 2008. The first single to be released from this upcoming album is 'Hustler' and this song is killa...buy it!

Da L.E.S also known as Leslie Mampe is a south african Hip-Hop artist. He gained popularity around 2005 and 2006 as a member of "JOZI". Having released his debut album, "Fresh2Def" in June 2008, he has been able to highlight his style and unique sound (some may argue against this) . The leading tracks from his album such as "Tippy Toes" and "Fire", have been blasting on national radio stations and leading television stations such as Channel O and MTV Base Africa.

Da L.E.S is a reflection of his music because when you see him, you see what he is depicting through his tunes...candy, style,colour, commerciality and innovation.

Big Brother Africa 3

Twelve housemates under one roof,who would have thought that this concept would create such hysteria and excitement. Big brother Africa has proved to be a phenomenon; this show has allowed africans to unite both indirectly and directly. With the wonderful creation of instant messaging viewers have been given an opporunity to voice their opinions about the show as well as on the housemates.

Africans gather with anticipation in front of their televison screens waiting to see which housemate will take the grand prize of USD 100 000. Will it be Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia or Zimbabwe.

The third season of Big Brother seems to have gained much more support and the housemates are living up to the motto for this year " wicked,wild and wacky". All of their different characters add flavour.

Hooray to D&G spring / summer ' 09 Collection, Milan

Flowing dresses, high waisted shorts, scarves,hats and high wedges are what highlighted Dolce and Gabbana's collection for spring/summer 2009. Their signature stamp of drawing from what inspires them most; 40s and 50s fashion was shown. Classic colours of blue and red seemed to overshadow in what they had to offer.

This collection as a whole was very feminine and suitable for everyday wear,especially for women who want to be both fashionable but comfortable at the same time. High-end fineness at its best, loosened fabrics for the dresses, stripes for most of the pants as well as shapes and patterns.

Another striking feature were the accessories...the colourfully rimmed sunglasses,patent handbags coated in rich cololurs and as mentioned above, the 'scarves'. The scarves seemed to be the most important items when adding the finishing touches to a majority of these outfits; smalls scarves fasted in a little cute bow to the neck!
